Timber Drying Laboratory
Seven timber drying kilns, with a range of capabilities including thermal modification, low temperature drying and the ability to weigh samples during drying. All kilns are controlled using commercial Dryspec software to closely mimic the operation of commercial drying kilns, and to allow sophisticated control of the kiln conditions.
Three controlled humidity rooms for conditioning wood to a range of moisture contents.
Digital image correlation cameras and software, to allow non-contact strain measurement of surfaces (e.g. wood during air drying).
