Wood Quality Laboratory
Wood property analysis service for measuring commercially important wood properties for both softwoods and hardwood species using non-destructive and destructive sampling techniques on 5mm and 12mm cores, discs, and logs.
Properties measured include: wood density - gravimetric and maximum moisture content methods: increment cores, discs (juvenile wood and outerwood); shrinkage: radial, tangential, and longitudinal; x-ray densitometry investigating site, climate, genetic and silviculture effects (detailed within and between measurements of growth and wood density radially within a tree); internal checking and collapse assessment; compression wood; spiral grain; clearwood defects (resin pockets, blemishes, needlefleck, etc); heartwood and resin content; stand age and thinning treatment timing.
